Taste

Effect
This preroll meets expectations 100%

Nuleaf’s Sugar Biscuits x Golden Lemons infused preroll tests at 39% THC. It’s an in-house creation born from two of the dispensary’s most popular strains. It’s not clear what the preroll is infused with, however. It could be oil, crumble, kief, etc. The budtender wasn’t sure, either, but said the most likely answer is butane hash oil.

Appearance 5/5
The joint is fat, and a huge pile of golden-green weed bursts out when the paper is ripped. Load the ground up weed into a pipe or bong bowl if you want to really enjoy the color. If you’d rather keep the joint intact, you can see the weed pressed against the thin, translucent wrapping. The oil causes the weed to congeal into small clumps.

Aroma 4/5
An intoxicatingly pungent aroma wafts from the preroll. You don’t have to rip it open to enjoy the scent. It smells like a ripe lemon that’s been rolled in spices. The tangy aroma tickles the nose, making the Golden Lemons heritage apparent. Sugar Biscuits is trickier to place; the bud doesn’t smell sweet. If the budtender is correct, and the joint is infused with BHO, you certainly can’t smell it.

Taste 4/5
With a name like, Sugar Biscuits x Golden Lemons, you probably expect the smoke to have a sweet, bakery tart flavor. I was almost fooled on the first puff; I wanted to taste sugar so bad I thought that I did. A couple more puffs cleared my confusion. The smoke has a complicated, musky taste that seems sweet at first, because it’s devoid of bitter or spicy notes.

Effect 5/5
Sugar Biscuits x Golden Lemons is a hybrid strain. You shouldn’t expect the high to glue your limbs to the couch, or be particularly energizing. A perfect hybrid is ideally balanced between the two extremes. This preroll meets expectations. According to Nuleaf, it hits 39% THC. That’s enough to get you higher than you’ve ever been in your life, if you’re not experienced with cannabis. Even hardened stoners should be able to work up a decent buzz.

I can’t think of anyone interested in cannabis who wouldn’t like this preroll. It’s good for the weekend smoker looking to work off the week’s troubles, the medical patient seeking physical relief, and the tourist craving a new experience. There’s enough THC locked into the joint to get you as high as you want.

I’ve had a lot of infused pre-rolls. Sugar Biscuits x Golden Lemons is about as good as they come. The high is blissful and dreamy, washing comfortably over the body as you smoke. It’s a good thing each joint costs $25 because I could easily smoke this all day every day.

NuLeaf the building is rough, and plopped onto a busy corner in a lackluster area. A steady stream of foot traffic walks past 24-hours a day. Judging by the exterior, alone, you might think Nuleaf is a cramped, out of the way dispensary.

You would be wrong. The misconceptions fall apart the moment you step inside. Nuleaf is gorgeously decorated, with a quaint, old-fashioned aesthetic that appeals to your sense of nostalgia. It’s like stepping into a 1950’s ice cream parlor. You almost wouldn’t be surprised if the “Sugar Biscuits” on the menu referred to the real thing, instead of various cannabis products.

The dispensary is split into two sections. First, you enter the reception area. Next, you can head to the retail space. Line up immediately, or check out the displays on your own. There are usually two budtenders on duty.

This visit, I was helped by a woman who seemed pretty bored. She noticed that I was a local, but didn’t ask if I had a rewards account. If you sign up, you get 10% off every visit, as well as occasional text message deals. For some reason, Nuleaf uses a physical VIP card. If you forget it, you can use your phone number.

Like many dispensaries in town, Nuleaf operates its own grow operation. A little more than half of the strains on the menu are house-grown. The prices aren’t outrageous. You can pick up a top-tier gram for less than $20 with tax.
