Roughly break down those nugs, but not too fine, keep them a bit chunky. You'll then place those slightly broken down nugs onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Take that cookie sheet, and place it in a preheated oven at 245°F, and leave it in there for 30-40 minutes.
This is where the decarboxylation process takes place. Which, for those unfamiliar with the term, is just a fancy way of saying, "activating the THC" in the flowers.
This "low and slow" heating of the buds will activate the psychoactive component of cannabis. Essentially, this readies those broken down flowers to share their powers and potency with whatever substance it comes in contact with. In this case, that will be some regular, run-of-the-mill, store-bought butter.
But we'll get to that in just one second.
Once that 30-40 minute mark has passed, you can remove the buds from the oven, and place them to the side for a moment. Be sure to turn off that oven, and fire up the range, but not too hot.
Again, you'll want the heat source to be on a medium setting for this recipe. Anything higher than 245°F will effectively burn the bud, and render it completely powerless.
On top of that heat source, place a decent-sized saucepan.
Now, you'll take two sticks of non-medicated butter, along with one cup of water, and place them into the heated saucepan. Allow the butter to fully melt before moving onward. As that butter reaches its desired melted consistency, grab your trusty grinder, and break down those decarboxylated trees even more.
You'll want to get as much THC coverage out of these budlets, so be strategic with your grinding.
At this point, the butter should be fully melted. Now, you can add in that activated flower, and slowly stir it in amongst its buttery brethren.
The only thing you can do now is let it simmer for 2-3 hours on that low heat setting. Be sure to check on it every now and then, and give it a stir to make sure all the potency and flavor is being spread evenly throughout the saucepan.
When those 2-3 hours have passed, remove the saucepan from the heat source and place it to the side momentarily.
Prepare yourself a container for storage by securing a piece of cheesecloth over its opening.
This, as you may already assume, is going to serve as a filtration device. It will catch all of the unwanted floral particles from our newly-activated butter mixture.
Once that's all good to go, carefully grab that saucepan full of Cannabis-Infused Butter, and pour it into your storage container through the cheesecloth.
Once all the butter has made its way through the cheesecloth, gently pick up your container and place it in the fridge. The cool confines of the refrigerator will help it toughen up a bit. You'll know it's ready to go when it eventually returns to its original butter consistency.
When you're happy with how it looks, you can remove it from the fridge and use it for...well...anything! Truly. If any sort of recipe calls for regular butter, you can substitute that non-psychoactive ingredient for some of your super tasty, super-potent butter that you just made. It's really that simple.
However you choose to use it, you should be proud of yourself. You just successfully made some awesome Cannabis-Infused Butter.
Nicely done!
