Funky Malawi’s lineage includes the African landrace strain Malawi. Malawi contributes to Funky Malawi’s stress-relieving properties. Funky Monkey is the other parent strain and adds to the stench and name of Funky Malawi. On average, the THC percentages of this strain are around 20%. Many smokers consider Funky Malawi to be a Sativa strain instead of a hybrid because of its energizing and joyful high.

Appearance  4/5
Two dense bulbous chartreuse nuggets of Funky Malawi weigh one gram in the resealable Apothecary branded pouch. On the back of the black plastic bag in a transparent square that allows a peek at the vibrant cannabis. The peanut color of the short pistils contrasts against the green of the flower. The pistils do not extend past the sugar leaves and wrap closely to the bud. The sugar leaves appear a shade darker than the calyx, and the clear trichomes evenly coat a couple of nugs.

Aroma  3.5/5
The aroma is not quite what I expected when I unseal my gram of Funky Malawi and smell the open container. My first impression of the scent is that of tropical fruit and rainforests. The abundance of 𝛃-pinene adds to the woody flavor, but I was expecting more funk given the strain’s title. In addition, 𝛃-myrcene’s musk can exude wood, citrus, vegetative, and herbal perfumes. Funky Malawi’s cannabis cologne is a combination of refreshing, sweet, and sharp.

Taste  4/5
Similar to its flavor, Funky Malawi’s taste is more saccharine than it is funky. Initially, my tongue is hit with an herbaceous sweetness as the smoke is vacuumed into my lungs. Smoking Funky Malawi reminds me of eating mixed greens and leafy vegetables because of its freshness. In the same way, it tastes a bit like oranges, berries, and tropical fruit. The lasting taste on my tongue is that of pine thanks to the 5.10 mg/g pinene.

Effect  4/5
I can feel the uplifting effects of Funky Malawi after the second hit from my bowl. I have a surge in my focus that reminds me of getting in the zone when playing sports. Suddenly, my vision brightens, and colors appear more vibrant. Everything is infinitely more entertaining and humorous. The 𝛃-myrcene causes a sedative effect because of my entire body pulses with waves of relaxation.

I would recommend Apothecary Shoppe’s Funky Malawi sativa-dominant flower to a cannabis connoisseur seeking the rare combination of pinene and myrcene. Pinene’s ability to prevent short term memory loss and increase focus is often found in Sativa strains. Myrcene is the most sedating terpene in cannabis but is usually discovered in sedating Indica strains. Funky Malawi’s high may relieve stress, headaches, depression, fatigue, nausea, pain, and arthritis.

I had the urge to smoke Apothecary Shoppe’s Funky Malawi Sativa-dominant flower because of the interesting name. The aroma and taste did not provide the funk I expected, given the title of the strain. Still, I was not disappointed by the woody and fruity tastes of the complex terpene profile that includes my favorite terpene, pinene. I could imagine myself working at Apothecary Shoppe because of the stylish decor and classy dress code of the staff.

Because I live in Downtown Las Vegas, I have become extremely familiar with the dispensaries and products provided near the “Old Strip.” That is why I was inspired to try something new by traveling to the Apothecary Shoppe, just west of the illustrious Las Vegas Strip. When I arrived at 4240 West Flamingo Road, I was surprised that the building was more than a dispensary. To the right of the main entrance is The Cafe at The Apothecary Shoppe. The Cafe is open 10 AM until 6 PM Tuesday through Saturday. Classic cafe beverages like lattes and cold-brewed coffee are served along with frappes and smoothies. One can also enjoy a delicious variety of pastries, sandwiches, and desserts at the restaurant. Most importantly, CBD-infused edibles are available at the Cafe.

After checking out the eatery, I passed through the front door where the security guard welcomed me and directed me to the left in the foyer. Apothecary Shoppe’s dapper vibe helped me feel at home on my first visit. The earth tone theme is highlighted by an elaborate red carpet and luxurious leather furniture. I took advantage of the free water dispenser in the foyer before walking towards the receptionist counter. The counter was more like a cage and reminded me of the casino cashier cages. Brenda checked me in and informed me about Apothecary’s loyalty punch card. When I get my final stamp on the card on my 11th visit, I will be able to purchase an eighth of flower for $1.25.

All of the staff were dressed sharp and glamorous in the cannabis retail room, and this increased my respect for Apothecary’s style. The budtender Alex gave me a warm welcome, and we exchanged compliments on each other’s suits. I was looking to purchase a gram of Funky Malawi, but I wanted to learn more about the product before I committed it. When I asked about terpenes, Alex pulled out the display case that displayed all the cannabinoid and terpene data I was seeking. I could also obtain a magnified view and scent of flowers from the exhibit. Moreover, Alex informed me that the Apothecary operates its own farm that produces the Sativa-dominant Funky Malawi flower.
