With medical marijuana continuing to prove its worth to the small population of this nation who still doubt its miraculous capabilities, more and more people are starting to realize just how beneficial this amazing plant can be. To be fair, we’ve all known, for quite some time, how weed for pain is a proven route to relief. It’s hard to discern, however, what the best strains for pain are nowadays. But, that said, that’s typically on a case-by-case basis, as everyone’s personal body chemistry reacts differently to cannabis, and its various forms and mediums.

Also, let’s be honest here, as morose as it may sound, there’s a whole lot of pain out there, and each kind differs in severity and symptoms. Some people simply skin their knee, slap a band-aid on it, and go on with their lives. Other people, however, suffer much larger injuries or accidents, and are left with a life’s worth of pain and discomfort ahead of them.

Here’s How Marijuana Can Help Those Dealing With Spinal Injuries

While that is certainly the case for a litany of ailments and illnesses out there, one of the most prevalent cases of chronic pain stemming from injuries are usually spinal-related. These differ from the common back injury, in that their end effects have drastic ramifications on a person’s motor functions, as well as a laundry list of mental and physical issues that slowly creep up, and impede on that person’s overall quality of life.

One of the most efficient, safest ways to combat symptoms associated with spinal cord injuries is through cannabis. And, surprisingly, this isn’t some new revelation discovered by the scientific and medical communities. Quite the contrary, actually.

Despite the federal government’s criminal categorization of cannabis as a Schedule One substance, inherently prohibiting its study – claiming it had no medicinal value – scientists and doctors have been conducting private tests to see how cannabis can aid those who are currently in the throes of a spinal cord injury, and its many negative side effects, since the 1970s.

For those who may not be well-versed in the realm of spinal-related pain, some of the main symptoms are: stiffness, severe pain, insomnia, blood clots, bowel and bladder issues, anxiety, sexual dysfunction, and of course, depression. And that’s just to name a few. There’s a long, lengthy list of ailments that these poor people have to suffer through on a daily basis, and as I’m sure you can already see, it affects their lives in a major way.

And, as bad as those symptoms are, the truly horrible thing is they basically only had one way to even think about resolving those issues, and it wasn’t exactly preferred – or effective.

Doctors, even to this day, are hesitant about suggesting cannabis as a quality form of pain relief to their patients. They continually say that more statistical evidence has to come out before they can feel comfortable suggesting such a “substance” like cannabis to their patients.

Which, for logistical reasons, I completely understand. You don’t want to give your patients anything that would harm them. I get that. But, how can these same medical professionals turn around and write up multiple prescriptions for opioids to these very same patients? That just doesn’t make a lick of sense, if you ask me.

Opioids are horrible. They are immensely addictive, exorbitantly overpriced, and rarely deliver on their promised series of effects. Instead, they lead to a litany of other, more damaging issues, leaving the consumer in far worse shape than they started. Which, in my opinion, isn’t the sign of a “working” medicine. But, I never went to medical school, so what do I know?

What I do know is, as more and more states legalize the medicinal (and recreational) use of cannabis, more spinal cord sufferers are heading towards these “greener” pastures, and they are finding a wealth of therapeutic and medicinal relief from this absolutely amazing plant that we all know and love.

Also, as an increasing number of territories across the country change their once-stubborn anti-cannabis stance, labs and scientists are able to conduct more thorough research into how cannabis can help those who deal with spinal cord injuries. And, though there is still a lot of work left to be done before anything can be “set in stone,” so to speak, the current results are abundantly positive.

Multiple tests have come out proving that marijuana, and its multiple cannabinoids, can help patients deal with a multitude of side effects and symptoms that coincide with spinal cord injuries. Patients who chose to partake in cannabis as a form of relief, noted that they saw a significant decrease in overall pain, insomnia, and anxious/depressed feelings and emotions. Also, they were finally getting over their bladder and bowel issues a lot easier, thanks to cannabis.

With patients who focused on CBD treatments primarily, they saw a dramatic increase in their motor functions. This, as you can already assume, is a major leap forward towards discovering just how beneficial cannabis can be in the aid and recovery of these spinal cord patients. The pain-killing, euphoric properties of cannabis, in its various forms and mediums, are remarkable when it comes to leading a better, more comfortable life for those dealing with injuries of this nature.

And, at the end of the day, that’s all a medicine is supposed to do.

So, hopefully, as more of these studies and patient testimonials come out, the quicker the federal government and the medical community, as a whole, can see just how great cannabis can be as a medicine. It can help those dealing with daily pain and discomfort live worthwhile, happy lives, and it can do so in a much better, safer way than harmful opioids.

Those prescription pills are way too expensive, chock full of addictive chemicals, and rarely come through with their advertised relief. Why risk enduring an onslaught of unnecessary side effects, when you can just as easily spend less money on a naturally-growing form of pain relief, that not only tastes great, but makes you feel good in ways you never thought you could? It just makes sense.

Marijuana is a miracle medicine, and the rest of the world needs to realize that – soon.

Now, more than ever.
