Joy by Statemade is MedMen’s own brand, and Joy is one of their most popular strains. The name tells you everything you need to know. Sativa strains are supposed to provide little energy jolts, and Joy doesn’t disappoint. If you’ve been feeling sluggish or listless, a couple of puffs of Joy might be exactly what you need.

Appearance 3/5
Joy buds are a yellowish-green color, that looks sickly under bright lights. Other than that, it’s a typical weed strain. There’s nothing especially attractive about Joy’s appearance. It’s average.

Aroma 4/5
The weed smells like wet forest earth, mixed with crushed flowers. The scent is refreshing. It smells clean and natural. To really enjoy the scent, you need to smoke the buds. Smelling the flower in its whole-plant form simply isn’t enough.

Taste 5/5
Joy has a sweet floral lilt, with a musky aftertaste. It’s a perfect strain for inexperienced smokers because the flavor is light and appealing. I held the smoke in my throat without feeling the familiar burning sensation, and I was incredibly pleased with everything I tasted.

Effect 5/5
My lips hurt from smiling so much.

Are there things to worry about in the world? Who knows, I’m smoking Joy.

The only thoughts that seem to exist are pleasant ones. Joy is currently testing at 23% THC. Because the high is so cerebral, it can make you feel silly, if you’re not expecting it. I ordered pizza, and was so stoned, that I can’t tell if I wildly over-tipped the driver, or if I miscounted my cash before he arrived. Either way, I got pizza and great weed, so I was beyond happy.

Joy by Statemade recreational prices (taxes NOT included): 1g pre-roll ($12), 0.5g 10-pack preroll ($50

Are you plagued by gloomy moods? Do you need a social pick-me-up? Joy could be the perfect strain for you. The name describes itself perfectly. Stay away from Joy, if you’re trying to fall asleep. Smoking a few puffs is like downing an energy drink.

People suffering from anxiety and depression should add Joy to their list of strains to try, that’s for sure.

Joy to the stoner world!

This is Statemade’s most popular strain for a reason. It’s a spicy, uplifting sativa that was, as it states on the label, “made for happiness.” It’s one of my favorite new finds.

Smoking Joy is such a pleasure, that I would recommend it to literally anyone who wanted to get high. Someone who’s experiencing cannabis for the first time, a longtime stoner, a medical patient, everyone. It doesn’t matter how much experience you have, you will LOVE this bud!

If you’re looking for whole buds, however, you might be out of luck. The strain is usually sold as a pre-roll.

MedMen is glossy. I went with a cannabis newbie, someone who had never even held a joint before, and the first words out of her mouth were, “Wow. This is different.” Because it is. MedMen’s aesthetic is unique, at least for dispensaries. The Paradise location is designed with an open layout. There’s no lobby area.

MedMen sometimes describes itself as the “Apple store of weed.”

The description makes sense when you’re standing in the store. If you’re someone who likes to get in and get out, this place will drive you crazy. The sprawling set up forces you to browse. The inventory is displayed in multiple cases spread out around the store. If you’re interested in learning more about a particular strain or product, there are tablets for you to flick through.

Budtenders dressed in flaming red shirts roam the floor. When you know what you want, they write down your order. Then, a cashier will call your name when it’s ready.

MedMen budtenders are exuberantly friendly. The atmosphere is easily one of the best parts of the experience. There are no printed menus, so you have to move around if you want to see what’s for sale.

Since that’s the case, the budtender’s demeanor is really important.
