Rotten Cherries is a cross between GMO and Cherry Cookies. This cross gives a strong GMO diesel aroma, with the sweet taste of cherries to help mediate out some of the harshness found in diesel strains. It’s known for its powerful effects and higher levels of THC ranging in the upper 20s.

Appearance 4.5/5
Super crispy little nugs with multiple shades of green ranging from very light and almost white to very dark forest green. With red hairs growing long like little tentacles reaching for something, and a layer of crystals thick enough to be shaken off the buds. Sticky to the touch, and I was able to scrape crystals off the inside of the container and got enough to top a large bowl and then some. My only real negative was the little stems sticking out of the back of the buds.

Aroma 4.5/5
Opening the container yielded a lovely fragrance of lemon cookies that hit my senses immediately. A deeper whiff and I got a faint hint of fuel, but it was buried under the lemon cookies and a hint of cherries. With the name Rotten Cherries, I was a little disappointed in the very light cherry fragrance. I think I was hoping for more of a fermented cherries aroma. Although not very powerful, it has a wonderfully pleasant aroma.

Taste 5/5
I usually find fuel strains to be a bit on the harsh side. Not so with Rotten Cherries. This strain was so very smooth, with a taste of lemon cookies that’s not instantly noticeable but became more apparent with each hit. I thought the cherries were all but lost in the flavor, but they showed up as a sweet aftertaste, and despite the name, I tasted nothing rotten. Absolutely a delight smoking this strain.

Effect 5/5
This strain hit my head hard and fast. With just one hit, I knew this strain was powerful sativa. My body relaxed as the indica side of this hybrid strain worked its magic, and I sunk into my chair. I loved smoking this strain, so I probably had more than I needed to. But it lasted for hours, and I felt creative as I made dinner, and a little energetic as I went through some daily chores.

Product price: $17 per gram

I found Rotten Cherries to be good for mood elevation, a bit of creative spark, mild muscle relaxation, and reduction of tension I carry in my shoulders. I feel this strain is great for a day-use herb, wake and bake, and active users. I found it great for making mundane things like chores and making dinner more fun.

I often wonder why some strains have the names they have. Rotten Cherries could have easily been given a more appealing name, and I think it should have. With the beautiful multi-colored buds, and the crystals that were just falling everywhere off the buds. The wonderfully smooth taste, and the sweet aroma. I seriously couldn’t find anything rotten about these cherries.

Thrive Cannabis Market opened in South Reno just over three months ago. They haven’t been in the Reno area long, but they are established in the Las Vegas area, and they are opening new stores across Northern and Eastern Nevada in the next few months.
I discovered this newer cannabis store accidentally by driving by. I saw the big sign next to the building and decided to give them a try. The staff was super friendly, and they weren’t overly busy, but they only had two budtenders on staff when I went in, so it took a bit longer than average.
My budtender was very knowledgeable of the products, discussed the rewards program Thrive offers, and made some lovely suggestions based on what I was looking for. Thrive has a point system, much like all the other dispensaries in the area. Unlike other places I’ve seen, though, they let a customer accumulate enough points to trade in for an entire ounce of marijuana. It does have to be an ounce of selected strains, but it was only 3000 points for the redemption, and with double points days, I could see myself easily achieving the points required in a few months.
I ran into some technical delays while I was at Thrive. I needed the ATM, and at that very moment, it was being serviced. It only took a couple minutes, and I chatted a little with the security guard while I waited. I felt very welcome by all the staff, and everyone was very apologetic for this minor delay.
