Cannabis has always been about inclusion. The way the marijuana community can peacefully interact and support one another is incredible. There’s nothing but tranquil, embracing energy to be found in this unique slice of the population.

However, that sort of welcoming demeanor isn’t in normal society, I’m afraid. In fact, we, who use cannabis, are often judged and ridiculed by the average citizen. And, even though we all love to partake in marijuana, only a select few of us in the cannabis community are targeted by police during this failed War on Drugs.

Without question, minorities were (and continue to be) wrongfully sought out by local law enforcement agents, while they’d routinely ignore white enthusiasts, or let them off with a slap on the wrist. Well, that injustice simply did not sit right with our community, and ever since it became an issue, we’ve been working hard to right that racist wrong committed by our police officers.

Nowadays, in an era of increased marijuana acceptance and legalization, that senseless War on Drugs has all but faded away, with only some lingering ne’er-do-wells popping up every now and then. In its wake, a burgeoning cannabis industry has evolved, and many of its top ganja-prenuers are minorities. Black-owned dispensaries, woman-owned cannabis clubs, and everything in between. All of this newfound success is just karmic proof that these people should be treated equally, and not targeted by police, simply because of their race or gender.

Here’s a collection of some of the top minority-owned marijuana companies in the industry at the moment – in no particular order.

Zion Gardens

The founder of Zion Gardens, Aaron McCrary, didn’t start out in Las Vegas, although, that’s where his wildly successful cannabis company wound up. At first, he was a cannabis cultivator out there in the great state of Washington. But, one day, when he learned about Nevada’s new stance of legalized cannabis, he knew he had to strike while the iron was hot. And “strike” he did.

His massive 6,000 sq. ft. facility is beyond impressive, and he plans to expand in the very near future. McCrary knows how to pay it forward, too, because he makes sure to employ a large number of women and minorities, with the same going for qualified individuals who happen to be handicapped.

The American Cannabinoid Clinic

If you feel like the name of this place gives off a “medical” vibe, you wouldn’t be wrong. This expansive cannabis company is helping hoards of marijuana enthusiasts live better lives across the majestic Pacific Northwest – Oregon, Washington, and California, to be exact.

This establishment was created as a pure passion project by a team of super-successful doctors and physicians. This amalgamation of doctors, all from various fields, decided to join forces and share their collective expertise with one another, to help people get some much-needed medical marijuana

Dr. Janice Knox is the leader of the show here, and she works alongside her husband, Dr. David Knox, as well as their two equally-brilliant daughters, Dr. Rachel Knox and Dr. Jessica Knox.

Panacea Valley Gardens

Not only is the owner of this medical cannabis cultivation company a minority, they are actually the chairman (and co-founder) of the Minority Cannabis Business Association, itself. Their name is Jesce Horton, and they’re just all around awesome!

You may have already heard of their insanely successful marijuana outfit known as, Saints Cloud.

They’ve enjoyed an influx in revenue recently, with absolutely no signs of slowing down. They, much like other major players in the business, have an enormous facility (20,000 sq. ft.), which they primarily use for cultivation purposes, but they also use it for every other facet of the production process.

Hell, the place is so large you can even hold a private event there. They also have an on-site bed & breakfast and full-blown cannabis lounge. Pretty cool, right?

Supernova Women

Just on the name alone, you can tell these women are powerful, and ready to take the cannabis industry by storm. And, so far, they are doing a tremendous job in accomplishing that goal, mainly by helping women (mostly minorities), step into the ever-competitive cannabis industry.

They started this endeavor back in 2015, when the Women of Color in Cannabis group decided that enough was enough. They decided, right then and there, to help others in their same position enter this incredibly profitable industry.

To be specific, this was started by Andrea Unsworth, Nina Parks, Amber Senter, and Tsion “Sunshine” Lencho. And, in addition to helping people get jobs, they also assist people in expunging past cannabis charges off their record.

Which is something every cannabis company should start doing, in my personal opinion.

Euphorium

This phenomenal company, based out of Oakland, is one-of-a-kind, that’s for sure.

They are completely non-profit and woman-owned, and it’s one of the most popular dispensaries and cannabis delivery services in the Bay Area. The courageous cannabis owner, Charlita Brown, knows her stuff, too. She used to have a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry, and she routinely utilizes her previously acquired acumen to help customers develop a more personal bond with (and better understanding of) cannabis, in general.

Cali Premium Produce

This Lynwood, California company was started by Priscilla Vilchis, who was amongst the first people to get a sought-after permit to cultivate cannabis in this specific region of the West Coast state.

As a Latina woman, she is a pioneer in this field, and she’s seen nothing but success from the start. Now, at this point, Priscilla already had a couple licenses for similar endeavors in the state of Nevada, and her expertise was too big to ignore. Hence, Cali Premium Produce was created, and the rest is marijuana history.

Simply Pure

What a calming title for a cannabis company, wouldn’t you say? Kind of like an island vibe, no?

Well, that’s probably because Wanda James had been in charge of a super popular chain of Caribbean eateries and restaurants long before cannabis entered her life.

Along with her husband, Scott Durrah, they were able to make a killing in the restaurant industry, before switching gears into cannabis. And her reason to do so was quite personal.

Following the unjust arrest and incarceration of her brother for marijuana, back when he was only a teenager, she knew that she had to take a stand; to speak out against such blatant misjustice, in order to make sure this sort of thing stops happening altogether. Seeing as how this past charge affected his life for so many years afterward, Wanda is doing all she can, through her dispensary, to bring awareness to just such an issue.

Now, of course these are just a small fraction of the super-successful minorities who are making a name for themselves in the cannabis industry. So, feel free to dive a little deeper into your favorite company from this list, to see if they offer any of their services in your area.
